Upload ASCII transcript to Reduct

Reduct supports ASCII transcript uploads, which can allow you to import certified transcripts, as well as correct your transcripts offline.

Updated over a week ago

This functionality is currently "early access" only, and workspace-specific. If you would like access to this functionality, please email support@reduct.video

If you have a certified transcript that you would like sync'd to your audio/video in Reduct, you can upload that certified transcript to Reduct.

Alternatively, if want to create extensive corrections to your recording transcript, it can be sometimes helpful to edit your transcript "offline," using a text editor on your local computer. To do this with Reduct, please follow the following steps:

(1) Expand the "media file" drawer:

(2) Click on the three vertical dots next to the file that you want to work with.

If you have a certified transcript, click "Upload ASCII transcript (txt)", and upload your transcript. You are now done.

If you are want to offline edit your transcript, click "Download ASCII transcript (txt)"

Which will download a txt file that looks like this:

(3) In a text editor, edit the transcript, and re-save it as a .txt file.

Keep the following things in mind as you edit your transcript:

  • Speaker names must be in UPPER CASE or Title Case

  • Do not change the number of spaces at the beginning of each line.

Any text enclosed by [ ] or ( ) will be ignored during the import.

(4) Choose "Upload ASCII transcript (txt)" to upload your edited transcript.

After you are done editing (if applicable), open the detailed menu (as in step 2), and click "Upload ASCII transcript (txt)" to upload your edited transcript.

Your transcript will now be re-aligned with the media, and will be ready for you in a few minutes.

Note: As noted above, this is "early access" functionality. If you notice any issues or have feedback, please email support@reduct.video - we would love to hear from you!
