Note: this feature is available to users on our Professional plan and for Enterprise customers. You can also try out the feature during your free trial. Please get in touch with support@reduct.video if you are on a legacy plan and do not have access.
1. The timeline view
You can access this feature by clicking the timeline icon next to the New Recording button.
You will now see a list of all your videos, with a button to Auto-detect timestamps. Click on the button. Reduct will automatically try to pull the timing annotations for each file by looking at the first frame of the body-worn camera footage.
You will now see the videos organized into a timeline view. The videos from the same event (similar data and time) will be grouped together.
Manually fixing the timing metadata:
For videos with no embedded timing information (like 911 calls), Reduct will not be able to add them to the timeline. They will be listed under Files without timing metadata (1). You will need to manually enter data and time for these.
Click on the drop-down icon to expand all the files without timing metadata.
Then click on the Enter time metadata button for the file that you’d like to fix.
Now, enter the date, time and the timezone and hit Save.
Click on the "Fix manually" button towards the bottom left. You will be taken to a window where you can type in the date and time information for each of your footage.
Editing the timing in the Timeline view:
There is also an option to edit the date and time information of the recording that has already been updated.
Click on the timing metadata right below the name of the video. This will take you to a window where you can edit the date and time information for each footage.
2. The Multicam side-by-side view
The timeline shows "events" with overlapping video footage, one after the other.
Select all the videos you’d like to view at the same time.
Click on the View synced video button.
Refining the alignment:
Even after entering all the timing metadata, the videos are sometimes off by a few seconds. In such cases, Reduct will automatically give you a suggestion to align them so that they are exactly synced down to the millisecond.
Just hit the Adjust button for all the suggestions.
3. Working with the Multicam view in Reduct
Multicam sync allows you to review footage from different angles simultaneously. You can jump to specific moments by clicking on a word in the transcript, which will take you to that moment across all files and angles.
Audio will play from the video you selected, while all other angles continue playing in sync.
Choosing the layout and videos
To focus on specific videos, you can hide any you don’t need. Just click the dropdown at the top and uncheck the ones you’d like to remove from view.
Finally, you can also change the layout to remove the transcript and just have the videos play in sync. Click on the icon on the right of the files drop-down to switch the layout.
