Note: this feature is workspace-specific. Please get in touch with support@reduct.video if you do not have access.
1. Accessing the timeline view
You can access this feature by clicking the three vertical dots (⋮) next to the "New Recording" button and selecting "View timeline" option.
Reduct will now try to detect the start time of each body-worn camera video automatically. We do this by reading the timestamp visible in the first frame of the video.
Just make sure all the files are selected and click the "Auto-detect timestamps" button.
The auto-detection will take a few seconds. When ready, you will see a list of all the videos with the detected start time. Click on the "Save" button.
ⓘ Any video that doesn't have a timestamp embedded won't get a timestamp.
Reduct will now organize your footage by date and time, creating a comprehensive chronological timeline. This ensures that all evidence is accurately aligned with the sequence of events, providing a clear and organized view of when the incident occurred and what videos you have available for a particular event.
Fixing the timing metadata:
There might be cases where the time is not embedded into a video, and Reduct will not be able to automatically organize that footage into a Timeline. In such cases, you have an option to manually add the date & time information.
Click on the "Fix manually" button towards the bottom left. You will be taken to a window where you can type in the date and time information for each of your footage.
Editing the timing in the Timeline view:
If you've already added the timing metadata for a video but want to make changes, click on the pencil icon next to the video's timestamp in the timeline. This will take you to a window where you can edit the date and time information for each footage.
2. Viewing multi-cam footage side-by-side
The timeline shows "events" with overlapping video footage, one after the other. For any of these events, if you click "View synced video," you will be taken to a screen where you can see side-by-side video of every video file in parallel.
Note:
Sometimes, the synced videos are off by a few seconds, even if you enter the correct timing information. We do a second layer of alignment using common transcripts between videos to make sure all the videos are in perfect sync. If you see a pop-up for further realignment, just hit the "Adjust" button.
3. Working with the Multicam view in Reduct
Multicam view allows you to review footage from different angles simultaneously. You can jump to specific moments by clicking on a word in the transcript, which will take you to that moment across all files and angles.
You will hear the audio from the video you hit play on while all other videos will continue playing in sync.
