How to translate to a new language with Reduct?

First, select the original language/s spoken in your recording when you upload. Translation is a secondary step after you have a transcript in the original language.To translate,

  1. From the LHS panel, click on the recording you want to translate.
  2. Click on the Translations button on top of the transcript and select New translation.
  3. Choose your target language from the list (e.g., Spanish). It may take a few minutes for the translation to align depending on the length of your recording.
  4. Once ready, click the translated language to view the new transcript.

For more accurate translations, review and correct the original transcript first before starting the translation.

Switching between different translation views

Reduct offers three different views to see the translation.

To switch views, click the Translations button, then select one of the three icons at the bottom of the dropdown.

1. Single language view

This is the default translation view in Reduct. It shows the entire transcript in your chosen translated language only. The original language is replaced by the translation in this view.

Use this when you want to focus on just the translation without the original alongside it.

2. Side-by-side view

Shows the original transcript and the translation side-by-side, right in the transcript window. This view makes it easy to spot errors and check accuracy. Translations are auto-synced, so clicking any word in the translation takes you to that exact moment in the recording.

Use this when you want to compare the original language and the translation closely.

3. Line-by-line view

Shows the original and translated text together as different paragraphs, in the same transcript window, with the recording still visible in its usual spot. This works well even on smaller screens, since you don't need a separate window for translation.

Use this when you want to keep working with the video in place with original and translated language in one view.

Downloading the side-by-side translation

You can also download this side-by-side translation by clicking on the download icon and selecting the Download translation (Microsoft Word) button.
