How to get more transcription time in Reduct

Understanding the transcription time in your subscription

Our self-serve plans come with the following transcription time included:

  • Personal Plan: 10 hours per editor per month (120 per editor per year on the annual plan)
  • Professional Plan: 25 hours per editor per month (300 hours per editor per year on the annual plan)

All transcription time is pooled among all editors, and for the annual plan, all transcription time is received in a full chunk at the beginning of the year.

Transcription minutes apply to transcriptions and translations. We do not charge for minutes of silence, only for when the computer is actively transcribing or translating.

Human transcription is charged and billed separately.

The transcription time in your subscription does not roll over with your autorenewal — so on a monthly plan, it resets every month, and on a yearly plan, it resets every year. To avoid unexpected overage charges, we recommend keeping rough track of your usage so you can make changes if you need to. You can always see how much transcription time you have left in User Settings.

How do I get more transcription time?

If you find yourself running low on transcription time, here are the details on your options in Reduct.

  • Option 1: A la carte transcription minutes: You can buy transcription credits at the rate of $.10/minute. This is best for smaller amounts of extra time, as our subscriptions all come bundled at a discount.
    • Prepaid transcription credits are available to use right away.
    • Prepaid transcription credits do not expire or roll over as subscription transcription time does, so you can keep them for whenever you need them.
    • You must already have a subscription with us to buy transcription minutes a la carte.
    • Our prepaid rate is also the rate you will pay automatically if you upload past what's included in your plan.
  • Option 2: Annual plan instead of monthly: If you're on a monthly plan and you have "spiky" usage — e.g. an initial burst of uploading, or heavy months here and there — switching to an annual plan offers a less expensive option.
    • It will give you all your transcription hours pooled at the beginning of the year to use anytime during the year, instead of resetting them every month.
    • This allows for significantly heavier months interspersed with lighter ones without paying more.
    • You receive an additional 20% discount on the annual plan.
    • A plan change to annual can take place right away.
  • Option 3: Professional plan instead of Personal plan: Our Professional plan comes with 25 hours of transcription time per editor per month (or 300 hours per editor per year on the annual plan), in contrast to the 10 hours per editor per month on the Personal plan (or 120 hours per editor per year). The Professional plan is also our "full featured" option.
    • If you're on the Personal plan, you can switch to Professional if you find yourself needing more time.
    • This plan change will take place right away.
    • If you're already on an annual plan, you will receive transcription time (and be billed) for a pro-rated amount according to the amount of time left until your subscription autorenews. You will also receive the difference in transcription time (and be charged the difference in cost) from the Personal plan for the remainder of the year.
      • For example, if you have 2 months left on your annual Personal plan, each editor seat you upgrade with will give you an additional 30 hours (15 hours' difference between the Personal and Professional plans per month, times 2 months).
      • Keep these factors in mind when calculating how many editors you upgrade with, as changing your editor count after you upgrade will not affect your transcription time immediately (see below).
    • You will remain on the Professional plan until the end of your subscription period and it will autorenew if you make no changes, but you are welcome to downgrade to the Personal plan again before your autorenewal if your additional needs were temporary. The downgrade will take effect on your autorenewal date.
  • Option 4: Extra editor seats: No matter what plan you're on, you can add additional editor seats to get the additional transcription time. This transcription time is significantly discounted over buying extra transcription credits a la carte.
    • An additional Personal Plan editor will mean an additional 10 hours of time per month; an additional Professional Plan editor will mean an additional 25 hours of time per month. Additional editor seats become part of your subscription and will autorenew unless you remove them.
    • If you are on an annual plan, additional editor seats will be added and billed for the remainder of your subscription year (and then autorenew unless you remove them). Both billing and transcription time will be pro-rated according to the time left on your annual plan—so if you have 6 months left until your autorenewal, you'll pay half the yearly fee and receive half the yearly transcription credits all at once.
    • Additional editors will always be on the same plan as the rest of your account—you can't mix Personal/Professional seats or annual/monthly seats.
    • Be aware that if you choose to add more editors to any plan, you won't get the additional transcription time until the 1st of the month when our billing runs and you make the payment, although new editors can always log in right away.
    • If you won't permanently need the increase in transcription time, you can remove the new editor at any time to ensure that you won't be charged for the seat again upon autorenewal. This does not remove the seat from your account for anything except autorenewal purposes — you'll retain access to the additional editor seat should you decide to use it, and the additional transcription time will remain on your account until the end of your subscription period.
    • If you don't want to have anyone else on your account, you can use an alternate email for an additional editor seat, or most email providers will allow you to add a "+" string on the end of your email (e.g. myemail+1@reduct.video — you can test to confirm whether this works for you and use those addresses as additional Reduct editors). You won't have to log in as any other email to use the additional transcription time, as all transcription time is pooled among all editors.

What happens if I run out of transcription time?

If you run out of time on your subscription for the month or year and you don't make any of the above changes, you will automatically be charged for any overages at the rate of $.10/minute in increments of $5. To avoid overage charges, watch your subscription time in User Settings to see when you're getting close to your included time.

If you're consistently receiving overage charges, we recommend changing your subscription, as that will provide significant savings over paying by the minute.
